There’s also something to say for the campiness of it all. Resident Evil on the other hand, while scary in its own right has always been more about traditional terror and jump scares and that’s just more my speed when it comes to scary things. The themes and tone of the games (the good ones at least) are second to none and were absolutely a game changer during the PlayStation and PS2 era. Silent Hill, for me is t he pinnacle of psychological horror. I’ve always been a big fan of both series but for very different reasons.
While I love the concept and the atmosphere that is invoked throughout the entire Silent Hill series, I can’t bear myself to go through those nightmare-inducing worlds.
One franchise in particular that I feel comfortable playing through without screaming like a 9-year-old child is the Resident Evil games as they usually offer more subtle scares rather than trying to keep you awake at night. Having said that, there are still many horror games I do enjoy and while they mostly consist of more an action-oriented nature, there are still some titles I love going back to play, even if they still scare the crap out of me. Today, we wanted to take a moment to look at two horrifying series that have competed against one another for the most terrifying game franchise of all time between the psychological thriller that is Silent Hill and the zombie shooter titles of Resident Evil and see which series is the best in the genre.įor those who don’t already know my opinion on horror games, I am not too big on the thriller genre. From the classic rivalries that have brought gaming where it is today to the newer series’ that are taking the world by storm, there have been countless conversations as to which video game series is better over their competitors. There has been much debate in the gaming world as to which franchises are better than others.
